Remote Controlled Robot
Designing a crane system under constraint: 10 weeks, 8.5 lbs, a 24-inch gap to cross.
Class:
ENGS 76: Machine Engineering
OVERVIEW
As part of a team project, I helped design and build an RC-controlled robot capable of autonomously constructing a scale bridge across a 24-inch gap. My focus was the crane arm — specifically how to move a gripper precisely in both vertical and horizontal axes without adding weight or mechanical complexity. The final robot placed all structural elements successfully within a 5-minute run on competition day.
MY ROLE
Led crane arm ideation, prototyping, and design
Designed vertical and horizontal actuation of the gripper along the crane arm
Built a pulley system and chassis to enable independent gripper movement along two axes
Led project management
